After the excitement of Super One in May it was back to normal
for both the Fun meeting and the MSA meeting in June. Both
were well attended with reasonable weather. Some fabulous
racing took place at the Fun meeting with the World Formula
race producing some of the best racing I have ever seen at
Warden Law. Unfortunately I missed the MSA weekend but I gather
a break in the weather created some interesting racing for
the finals.
ProSport
John Dryden confirmed to me today (Tuesday 20th June) that
he has sold the ProSport business to Bob Shipman. Bob can
be contacted on 0870 233 0896. We look forward to seeing more
of John on the track now he has less to distract him.
National Motorsport Week
The MSA is supporting an initiative by the Motorsport Industry
Association to generate more interest in motorsport during
the week of 12th to 20th August 2006. Any ideas that you may
have along these lines would be appreciated. Karting North
East are making attempts to run -
i. a Media night inviting teams from all local media to
get involved in an Endurance Race
ii. Motor Club endurance event (providing the clubs invite
new entrants along on the night)
The media night we are offering free of charge to the media
providing the give as much exposure as possible to motorsport
in general during that week. The Club night is offered to
them at half price in the hope that new faces will come along
and experience entry level motorsport for the first time.
Please speak to Emma, Anna or myself if you have any suggestions
as to how we should promote this initiative.
Promotional Material
Several people have asked if KNE has any posters, flyers etc
to promote kart racing. We do now have some available so,
if you feel that you can help by getting posters up around
the North East, please give us at KNE a ring. I am determined
to build the grids at both the Fun and Club events so any
help would be appreciated.
Daniel Robson
I have known Daniel for several years and in that time I have
seen him put into an ambulance twice following a karting accident.
I am pleased to tell you that he is on the mend following
a broken bone and dislocated wrist (ouch!) which will keep
him away from karting for the next few weeks. Given that he
has just started to race as a senior and he was close to the
front when the incident happened I guess all senior Max drivers
will hope that he does not rush back to soon! It must be said
that he demonstrated loads of bottle to return to karting
after his injury as a Cadet some years ago. How ever I am
sure he will be back as soon as the doctors let him! Get well
soon Daniel!
Theft on Race Weekends
Sadly we have lost generators and a pedal bike recently from
the paddock overnight. It appears that we have a problem which
could be helped if such items were chained to something
solid at night. We at KNE have taken steps to address this
problem which, in part need some help from yourselves. We
have installed movement alarms behind the buildings in the
paddock. We will activate these once the paddock has settled
down for the night. How ever if children are still running
about late at night then the system will soon be switched
off by the night watchman as he will get fed up of false alarms.
This system cannot see through motor homes, awnings etc but
it will pick up movement on the road ways etc so it may help.
www.wardenlawkartclub.co.uk
The site is updated regularly (now) with Anna Lightfoot in
the KNE reception. MSA points are generated from the laptop
used by the WLKC on race day. If you have any queries to do
with the web site or the MSA racing in general contact Anna.
Any questions to do with the Fun meetings are best directed
to Emma.
Maintenance Sheets
Something I have felt was lacking for some time is an info
sheet for specific types of kart engines. The Kart Shop at
Warden Law has written up basic notes on each engine which
we provide with karts that we sell. If, how ever, you feel
that you would like one of the sheets please ask at KNE reception.
They are not intended for those who have been karting for
years but are for beginners who need basic information about
their kart.
World Formula
Following a suggestion from a parent we ran the Juniors and
Seniors together for the first time during the Fun meeting.
Given the driving experience of the juniors I had no problem
with this from a safety point of view. The racing was excellent
with the lead changing hands repeatedly. Daniel Tate drove
superbly and was a worthy winner of the "Driver of the
Day" trophy. How ever Ryan Watson also drove superbly
and was a close second to Daniel for the trophy.
In future we will run the World Formula as a combined class
i.e. from 12 years old onwards. How ever all drivers must
adhere to the minimum weight of 165 kg and use Bridgestone
YEQ slicks and YGR wets.
The Kart Shop at Warden Law
Has 2006 World Formula pre owned karts available and can now
repair / rebuild WF engines. The karts featured on the front
cover of this month's Kart Magazine are the karts now for
sale in the kart shop. To quote the magazine "Now it's
your turn! "
Pre owned Comer powered Zip Cadets are also in stock. Both
classes will be promoted by KNE later this year and next year
through the Fun meetings. Both will be promoted as "out
of the box" classes i.e. without the need to spend money
on "fine tuning" the engines to get the most out
of them. Our policy is to keep karting as cheap as possible.
Quinton's Training Days
If you are interested in your child spending time during the
school holidays at a Driver Training day then please let us
know. Our aim would be to take 3 or 4 youngsters for, say,
a half day of tuition to improve lap times by training. Please
leave your contact details at KNE reception so we can make
arrangements.
