General Points
The weather has hit us with a vengeance this year with gale force winds then snow and ice to the extent that we have been shut for the best part of a week. Still “we all need bad days to appreciate good days!”

Caravans - seem to be growing in number in the paddock. No one has re booked their spaces with the WLKC for this year. Given the fact that we need all possible space for the Cadet “O” Plate on the first weekend in April we need your help. If you wish to leave your caravan here all year then the WLKC needs a cheque for £150 from you before the 13th March. When you bring the cheque to the KNE
reception our Chris Keniry will agree which bay is yours. All other caravans will be removed from the paddock on Monday 14th and positioned close to our front gate for easy collection by yourselves. If you are not entering the “O” plate, Super one etc we will carefully move them out of the way for that weekend.

Kart Maintenance - we have had several parents request basic maintenance training for themselves. So on Sunday 13th March we are offering a three hour course at 3pm in the clubhouse. Please let us know if you wish to come along. Cost £25 pp

Yellow flags and lights - some owner drivers who use the circuit when hire karts are racing, ignore the yellow lights by overtaking the hire karts who have slowed down. This causes hire kart drivers and us a problem as it confuses the in-experienced hire kart drivers. Please cooperate with us; slow down, don’t
overtake until the partially blocked circuit has been cleared. The alternative is to stop owner drivers using the circuit on Saturdays!

We need a part-time receptionist on weekends – if interested please give Emma a ring!

Cheap Fun Karts for sale - we need rid of a few karts to make space for the new fleet. If you know someone who is looking for a cheap, fun kart for 8 – 16 year olds we have the very thing. £100 – £250 is cheap!

Matters arising from the Fun meeting
The Driver of the Day was Amy Ward who was chosen by Peter Knibb because of her consistency in changeable conditions. She coped with wet cold conditions well, made no mistakes whilst competing with a large grid of Cadets, all of whom were very keen to beat her. Well done Amy!

Novice Karters - Help for beginners from Anton ( KNE Maintenance manager ) is now available by prior arrangement. February’s Fun Meeting saw two novice drivers end up 11th and 16th out of 24 Cadets. While any driver’s ability and time spent practicing should not be underestimated, the father of one of the novices said that Anton’s help and advice re driving style had been invaluable.

Rules & Regs - Rules & regulations regarding kart eligibility are there to ensure a level playing field. Deliberately using non standard tyres is pointless as it excludes you from the results but also upsets other drivers particularly if you are interfering in their race with other legal drivers as a result of your unfair advantage. Please stick to the regulations. We will continue to encourage new entrants towards full
compliance with the regulations by offering advice and help to get them up to the weight, buying the correct tyres, avoiding pit falls etc. How ever if we feel that an experienced driver is abusing our goodwill he will be excluded from the results.

Cheating helps no one. Tyre and fuel additives are illegal in karting so please avoid temptation. The MSA has now approved use of the “tyre sniffer” and its low cost makes it an option we will use. Spend your money on driver and set-up training, testing, lighter components etc but avoid breaking the rules.

Safety on the Grid - Finally despite the written request (given to each driver at signing on!) for no one but the driver and mechanic to enter the grid one family with Grandma in tow ignored that, then ignored my request for them to stay away from the Grid. So Plan B it is……..next month any driver that they are supporting will be taken out of the Grid and made to start from the back. We spend a lot of time meeting with H & S inspectors discussing all aspects of safety. Why then should our safety record, our relationship with the local H&S inspector, our Public Liability insurance policy and consequently your racing be put at risk by one entrant’s stubbornness?

Cancellation of The MSA Meeting
The decision was taken to cancel the meeting on Sunday 20th February around 6.30am as 3 to 4 inches of snow were already on the circuit with more snow and low temperatures forecast. As driving conditions were also poor it was felt that we were unlikely to get the majority of drivers to the circuit. Consequently
it seemed unrealistic to attempt to clear the circuit as low temperatures may have replaced the snow with ice.

On the rare occasions that this happens a refund of the entry fee is made less a £15 admin charge. Some costs remain despite the weather e.g. the Paramedics, staff, advertising of the event in the Kart Magazine etc. The club’s accounts show a loss last year, in other words money is tight, hence the admin charge
specified in the regulations applies*. KNE have not charged the club anything on this occasion. Inevitably there are no winners in a situation like this. It has been agreed that the refund of your entry fee less £15 will be offset against your entry for the March meeting.

* Those drivers who entered but did not pay with their entry will be asked to pay the £15 admin fee in the same way as those drivers who entered and paid in the correct way.

"O" Plate Reserved Bays & Practicing.
Demand will be high for paddock spaces for the combined “O” plate and club meeting on the first weekend in April. To reserve a bay please phone the KNE office. The bays with electricity will be £35 for the weekend or £25 for bays without electric. Unreserved space is available in the top paddock. The
circuit will be available each day of the week leading up to the “O” Plate for practice.

Transponders
These are compulsory for MSA events. The WLKC no longer has a source of
transponders but a limited number are available to hire from KNE. A few new transponders are available at a cost of £145 from KNE reception or from SuperSport Timing on 01432 860685.

Cadets
Those of you who are intending entering the MSA Club meeting in Honda Cadet are reminded that your engine must be the new ‘T’ spec engine. Further details from the kart shop.
