Autumn 2004
Tristram Oman of South Shields - 2004
Rotrax World Karting Championships
Tristram Oman of South Shields performed brilliantly at the
recent 2004 Rotrax World Karting Championships at Sharm El-Sheikh
in Egypt.
After three, action-packed heats Tristram
won all his three heats to qualify on pole position for the
pre-final race. He went on to win this with breathtaking pace,
beating and upsetting his three major rivals putting him on
pole for the final, exactly as predicted by Ian Lawson the
Karting Northeast boss earlier this year.
As the Final race approached the chance
of Tristram winning the championship brought anxious expressions
form the other three leading contenders. The fierce action
and wheel-to wheel nature of karting made for an eventful
race - all four drivers were involved in various skirmishes
as they jostled for lead into the first bend. Tristram lead
up to the first bend but an incident that saw the other over-enthusiastic
Rotax drivers trying to barge past forced him wide and off
the track and out of the race completely.
Tristram had just cause to appeal for a
restart, but decided that this would have only caused more
hassle. Proud of his world beating previous heats Tristram
is still passionately looking to qualify for the 2004 World
Championships in Lanzarote.
Back home at his karting shop based at
the Karting Northeast Warden Law Motorsports Centre near Sunderland,
Tristram still drives for the HRS Team and encourages other
would be champions to learn to race just as he did from sixteen
year old. The Outdoor Warden Law circuit and Indoor Centre
at Dunston caters for all ages and levels with driver training
from 8 year old, kart hire and race school or just for fun
day out for groups and company entertainment.
