British Schools Karting Championship < BACK

Top of the class for Berwickshire High & Seaham School

January saw the launch of the British Schools Karting Championship with over 30 teams from the North East taking part. The initiative is to give young people the opportunity to sample what Karting as a sport can be like, The Warden Law circuit attracted the second highest amount of entries in the country with only London having more. Youngsters from around the region gathered at Karting North East near Sunderland to take part in the regional heats.

First through to the final were Berwickshire High School with some excellent driving, and Seaham School who secured 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place. Staff at Karting North East were impressed with driving standards expecially bearing in mind that the majority of entries are novices. For many this was their first experience of karting and their eagerness to learn more was apparent from the start. Further heats took place later in the week with the top ten teams battling it out in the regional final in February.

The regional final took place on 5th February with some very competitive racing from the top teams. The top three from our region have won a place in the national final held at Buckmore Park in Kent in February.

Well done to all that took part in making this an excellent event for drivers and spectators alike. Congratulations go to Berwickshire High School Karting Team and two teams from Seaham School, who will be representing the North East in the British Schools Karting Championship Final.
